If you answered yes to the first 5
questions, this program, the Fraser Cascade School District #78 (SD78) and the
University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) Regional Careers Program (RCP), may be
right for you! Contact your school-based career and transitions coordinator,
counsellor or administration to get more information on the SD78/UFV trades
training partnership.
So what is the SD78/UFV RCP?
SD78 and UFV have
a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) in which it is agreed that SD78 has a total
of 40 reserved seats in UFV’s 13 various trades, or trade-related, programs.
The RCP program provides trades training, or trades-related, training, to SD78
registered high-school students that are under the age of 19, or are of 19
years of age within the school year (July-June) of the RCP training and have
not been out of school prior to the RCP training year. This training is for high
school students who are able to complete their required core courses to meet
graduation requirements for grade 11 and 12 and then enrol in UFV courses full
time. Students need to meet UFV’s entrance requirements for the program,
including any necessary entrance exams, and provide any
additional school-based documentation as requested by UFV. Applications
must be received by your school-based career and transitions coordinator or
administration by November 1st for preferred seating, otherwise, applications will be handled
in the same priority as all other applicants. This
program qualifies for dual credit, giving
additional high school credits, usually needed to meet graduation requirements.
Please Note: if
you apply for this transition program, and it commences after your grade 12
year, and all the above conditions hold true, the following applies: the
student and parent/guardian both recognize and accept that the official
graduation year for you, for legal and recording purposes, shall be extended by
one year. This change will not affect your eligibility to participate in
current graduation year activities that you are entitled to, based on your
academic and graduation program standing, or change any of your graduation
requirements.
If you, or your
parent/guardian, have any questions, please contact your school-based career
and transitions coordinator, school counsellor, or school administrator for
more information.
