Northern Opportunities Tour / Peace Energy Week

Nine students from SD78 participated in Peace Energy Week this spring. Take a look at this post for a couple pictures of what they did.

Peace Energy Week: 'We're very honoured to have these students take such an interest in our region,' said Dean of Trades and Apprenticeships Mark Heartt. 'We have a unique scenario here in the Peace, working closely with our industry partners and it's great to see students taking advantage of the opportunity to explore and learn.'
The week was hosted by local school districts and Northern Lights College.
'We included a lot of hands-on activities,' explained Heartt. 'The students really enjoyed the on-campus...

SD78 /UFV Trades and trades related programs.

Attention grade 11 and 12s:

Ask yourself the following questions:

1.      Will I be younger than 19 years of age as of June 30th of this year?

2.      Am I interested in a trade as a career/profession?

3.      Is that trade listed below in the table?

4.      Would I like to learn more about that trade and/or how to get started in the training for that trade?

5.      Would I like to learn if I qualify for sponsored tuition as a SD78 student?

6.      Am I on track to meet the current requirements for graduation?

If you answered yes to the first 5 questions, this program, the Fraser Cascade School District #78 (SD78) and the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) Regional Careers Program (RCP), may be right for you! Contact your school-based career and transitions coordinator, counsellor or administration to get more information on the SD78/UFV trades training partnership.

More information about UFV trades can be found at http://www.ufv.ca/trades/find-your-trade/

So what is the SD78/UFV RCP?

SD78 and UFV have a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) in which it is agreed that SD78 has a total of 40 reserved seats in UFV’s 13 various trades, or trade-related, programs. The RCP program provides trades training, or trades-related, training, to SD78 registered high-school students that are under the age of 19, or are of 19 years of age within the school year (July-June) of the RCP training and have not been out of school prior to the RCP training year. This training is for high school students who are able to complete their required core courses to meet graduation requirements for grade 11 and 12 and then enrol in UFV courses full time. Students need to meet UFV’s entrance requirements for the program, including any necessary entrance exams, and provide any additional school-based documentation as requested by UFV. Applications must be received by your school-based career and transitions coordinator or administration by November 1st for preferred seating, otherwise, applications will be handled in the same priority as all other applicants. This program qualifies for dual credit, giving additional high school credits, usually needed to meet graduation requirements.

Please Note: if you apply for this transition program, and it commences after your grade 12 year, and all the above conditions hold true, the following applies: the student and parent/guardian both recognize and accept that the official graduation year for you, for legal and recording purposes, shall be extended by one year. This change will not affect your eligibility to participate in current graduation year activities that you are entitled to, based on your academic and graduation program standing, or change any of your graduation requirements.

If you, or your parent/guardian, have any questions, please contact your school-based career and transitions coordinator, school counsellor, or school administrator for more information.

Attention 2016-2017 UFV-RCP students:

The student ancillary fees (shaded orange) listed on the table below must be paid to the school district office before June 30, 2016.

The green columns are student fees that you pay directly to UFV. If you already have health and dental through another provider you can opt out of the UFV health and dental plan.
For more information on opting out, follow this link: http://ihaveaplan.ca/rte/en/IHaveAPlan_UniversityoftheFraserValleySUS_ChangeofCoverage_OptOuts_HowtoOptOut

The blue columns are the estimated costs of tools, books, safety gear, and such. These fees are estimated based on a student who has none of these items at the time the program begins so your costs may be different. Each program will provide you with a list of item requirements. You can go to the UFV website to find out what books you need: http://ufv.bookware3000.ca/Course/campus. The expenses listed in the blue columns are an investment in your future career. You will take those tools, books, and gear to use in your future career.
